ifs ProShare, the not-for-profit membership organisation that acts as the voice of the employee share plans industry in the UK, is offering an introductory course about employee share plans for financial advisers.
According to ifs ProShare research, approximately 5 million UK employees are now saving thousands of pounds in some form of employee share plan.
Julie Richardson, Head of Employee Share Ownership at ifs ProShare, said:
“Increasing numbers of employees are recognising the benefits of employee share ownership but there is still a real job to do in terms of advice.
Some employees may not be participating in a plan made available to them through their employer because of a lack of understanding, others may be participating but unaware of the options available to them e.g. that they could transfer shares to an ISA or a SIPP (Self Invested Personal Pension).
Recent changes to the CGT regime could also have an impact on the tens of thousands of employees who achieve SAYE share plan gains in excess of £9,600. Smaller but significant numbers may also be affected by the new non-doms legislation. All these situations demonstrate a need for professional financial advice.”
The two and a half hour course, which includes ifs School of Finance CPD credits, will give advisers an understanding of the most common employee share plans. This will include information on the types of plan available together with an overview of the taxation implications. Additionally, the course will look at the tax advantages available to employees on maturity of some employee share plans.
